September 12, 2019

The MTDC (Maharastra Tourism Development Corporation) has decided to run these restaurants by recruiting local cooks to provide visitorsan authentic culinary experience. Restaurants have been re-launched using thisroute at Harihareshwar (Raigad), Kunkeshwar (Sindhudurg) Panshet andBhimashankar (Pune), Bodhalkasa (Gondia) and Nagpur, with plans to coverTarkarli, Vijaydurg and Dhamapur (Sindhudurg), soon.

According to newspaper DNA "At times, the restaurantcontractors would not serve local food and instead, treat guests with Punjabiand south Indian varieties. Why should a tourist staying at Nagpur or in theKonkan region eat north Indian food instead of local cuisines like Saoji andMalvani? Hence, on an experiment basis, we have appointed local men and womenas cooks," explained a senior MTDC official.

As per the India Tourism Statistics 2018 report the Statehad 11.91 crore domestic tourist visits and 50 lakh foreign tourists visitsduring 2017.
