Telangana woos Tourists from China

Hyderabad: China is taking a keen interest in tourism tie ups with Telangana. State government officials are hopeful of improving ties with China and said Beijing recently initiated a dialogue and will be sending a delegation of nearly 200 writers and tour agents in October this year. In a bid to attract more tourists to the country, China also participated in the Travel and Tourism Fair (TTF) 2016, which was inaugurated in the city on Friday. As of now, most people travel to the country only on official purposes. However, the government has no immediate plans to have direct flights to Beijing. Tourists heading to China continue to be limited. Those travelling to Beijing, Shanghai, Hong Kong and Guangzhou have to go via major metros. Obtaining a visa too takes at least 15 days. Azmeera Chandulal, minister for tourism, who inaugurated the fair, meanwhile said that TTF has registered a 20% growth this year. Among Indian states, Uttarakhand and the restive Jammu and Kashmir were first-time entrants at the fair. However, only one of the three stalls earmarked for J&K tourism was occupied. Speaking at the inauguration, P Ramulu, chairman, Telangana State Tourism Development Corporation (TSTDC), said that India and China can learn a lot from each other as both have a lot in common. "We should visit each other's countries more. Together, India and China account for more than half of the world's population. Barely a week ago, we have opened up dialogues with Hong Kong and Singapore as well," he said. (Courtesy: TOI)
